Calculators & Tools

A number of useful first-stab kind of tools are available on the web.  For example, all of the major mutual fund, brokerage and financial institutions provide some kind of highly macro type planning calculators available.

  • Fideliy
  • T Rowe Price
  • Vanguard

to name a few provide these both to clients and others. May be worth checking out.  What some of them lack is ability to run simulations although Fidelity & TRP have some capability here.

https://www.firecalc.com/ bills itself as a different kind of calculator. Ability to run simulations but very limited in terms of evaluating scenarios.

Another  that also has ability to run simulations and includes calculation of withdrawal schedules is this one:

A downloadable Excel spreadsheet has a few more options built in terms of parameters to be supplied but not very user-friendly.  Also, there is no absolutely no capability to run any simulations or account for historical market data.  Nevertheless, it has some very intriguing aspects to it.
